These printers do not require RFID chips inside the label roll. You can use original DYMO labels or compatible labels at a lower cost.

DYMO LabelWriter 550 Series

These printers use RFID technology built into the label roll.  The printer checks the RFIN chips before printing

Because of this, many compatible labels designed for older DYMO printers may not work in 550-series printers unless they include the required chip technology.

What Is RFID Technology?

RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. A small chip inside the label roll stores information such as:

  • Label size
  • Remaining label count
  • Label type

The printer reads this information automatically
